“And the coast of the children of Dan went out too little for them: therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.” Joshua 19:47

The children of Dan found themselves in similar circumstances as the children of Joseph; their population far outstripped the land allotted to them. Unlike the children of Joseph, however, they did not whine and complain. Also the  children of Dan assumed responsibility for the extra land they needed. They waged war against Leshem, took the land and settled in it. They did what the children of Joseph failed to do.

The moral of today’s meditation is this: there is no unique circumstance that anyone is going through that somebody else has not experienced or even experiencing presently. For every excuse we give for failing to act when necessary, scores of others would get up to testify how they went through successfully. Note that the same God of Israel whom the children of Dan depended on for victory was available to help the children of Joseph as well. However as we noted in previous meditation, they failed to appropriate the available grace. In closing, it is good we are reminded of the words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 10:13 – “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful,  who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

PRAYER: Lord, help me to rely on Your help at all times.
