“For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth. Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you” 2 PETER 1:12-13
When building a bonfire, you will need to visit the fire site every little while to stoke the fire by adding wood. Failure to do this means the fire will soon die out. This analogy applies to knowledge. When you lay a hold on a body of truth, you have to constantly re-visit it so you don’t go senile on it. The secret to retention is reminder. That is what we see Peter doing in the text before us. The saints of God had been instructed in the truth of the Kingdom. Jesus had been shown expressly as the door to the everlasting Kingdom. Receiving Him by faith created access for them; and continuing in good work would be the basis of their reward in the Kingdom. They knew all of these before; but they were being reminded so the knowledge will remain active in their lives and not be consigned to the residual department of their brains.
The only way to stay at the cutting edge of any truth is to visit it again and again. The moment we notice a lull in any area let us read up on it. Listen to teachings in that area to have your spirit stirred up again. There is no better time to study prayer than when you begin to see it as drudge rather than a glorious privilege to meet with the God of the universe. When you are finding it hard to stay faithful in your financial obligations towards God and His work, you need someone through teaching or writing to stir you up. Endeavour never to allow any aspect of your life to go into the doldrums. Stay alert in the spirit!
