“And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts”. 2 PETER 1:19
In our previous meditation, we mentioned the fact that people do not have to put their lives on hold waiting for the audible voice of God. So, what can someone look up to for direction and guidance? The answer is found in our text; we should live by “the prophetic word”. This will require some clarification. By the prophetic word, we don’t mean the one that many pastors deal out at the close of every service these days. At best, those are wishes or prayers. When Peter mentioned the prophetic word he meant all of the contents in God’s holy word. In Paul’s word, all scripture is given by the inspiration of God and is profitable. If all scripture is given by God and profitable, it boils down to saying that any scripture neglected is a profit forfeited.
In Mosaic economy, God put down conditions that must be met to appoint a king in Israel. He also instructed that when a king sits on the throne, he should write a copy of the law (his word) for himself. This he has to read every day to know how to live and govern. Well, the Bible calls us kings and priests. Our constitution must be the word of God. We are enjoined to take heed unto what is written to dispel all darkness.
